Whenever a team chooses to invest $37.5 million in one player, especially in the salary-cap era, it's a gamble. Any number of things can go wrong - injuries, bad chemistry, lack of production.

None of those has been a problem with Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara, the highest-priced NHL free agent this past summer. And yet, with Chara's first season in Boston almost officially in the books, it's hard to say that the Bruins got their money's worth.
