On any path, it's time to soar, grads are told; Hardships, not excuses.

WORCESTER - More than 1,100 Quinsigamond Community College students walked across the stage yesterday at the school's commencement.

Ensconced in the dry confines of the DCU Center - the graduation is traditionally held outside on the school's athletic fields, but was moved downtown as rain continued to saturate the region - the graduates received applause, congratulations and kind words from faculty, staff, family and friends.

Quinsigamond President Gail S. Carberry called the school she oversees "the best community college in the U.S.A.," and told the graduates it was time to soar.

Students at the community college go there for a variety of reasons and come from a variety of backgrounds, Ms. Carberry said.

Some graduates are looking to parlay their degree to further studies at a four-year college. Others are venturing into the world of work, and still others are looking to bolster their resumes to advance in their current professions, she said.
