'Look Good ... Feel Better' sessions scheduled.

The American Cancer Society's "Look Good ... Feel Better'' program will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Feb. 9 and March 9 at UMass Memorial Medical Center University Campus, 55 Lake Ave. North, Worcester, and from 10 a.m. to noon March 2 at St. Vincent Hospital, 1 Eaton Place, Worcester.

The free program teaches cancer patients hands-on techniques to cope with appearance-related side effects of treatments. Wig care, scarf and hat use, skin and nail care will be discussed. All participants receive a free makeup kit.

Registration is required. For the UMass session, call (508) 756-1311. For the St. Vincent session, call (800) 227-2345. The fee is $5 to park in the UMass University Garage for two hours.

January is national brain injury awareness month

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports that emergency rooms have seen a 60 percent increase in traumatic brain injuries among children and adolescents in the past decade.

During National Winter Sports Traumatic Brain Injury Awareness Month in January, health professionals are asking the public to be vigilant regarding safety habits during winter sports and to be aware of the warning signs of TBI.
