LEICESTER Walter J. Doane, 86, formerly of 130 Paxton St., died Friday, March 18 2011 at the Lutheran Healthcare Center in Worcester.

He was the husband of Dorothy A. (Patricks) Doane who died in 1991. He leaves three sons, Patrick L. Doane of Cape Canaveral, Fl., Michael J. Doane and his wife Beth of Warren and Kevin C. Doane and his companion Diane Colby of Leicester; two daughters, Nancy E. Robidoux and her husband Stephen of Leicester and Mary Lou Delisle and her husband Raymond of No. Brookfield; his beloved friend, Claire Rozzen of Warren; 9 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Walter was a molder for 35 years at Worcester Standard Foundry before retiring in 1986. He later was a bus driver for County Cab and Varney's Garage for many years.

Born in No. Grafton, he was the son of Karl and Nina (Ward) Doane. He graduated from Leicester High School and later served his country during WWII with the U.S. Army. A member of the 733rd. Field Artillery Battalion, he fought in the Battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Rochdale V.F.W. Post...
