$100,000 bail set for Oxford man; Victim shot 5 times on Russell St.

WORCESTER - Bail was set at $100,000 cash bail yesterday for an Oxford man charged in a June 21 shooting on Russell Street.

James R. Dunston, 24, of 11 Birch Point Road, Oxford, allegedly shot 24-year-old Mark McForbes five times with a semiautomatic weapon about 3:45 p.m. June 21 as Mr. McForbes was walking with a female companion on Russell Street near Shawmut Street.

Police said the shooting occurred in a heavily populated residential neighborhood. Mr. McForbes was hospitalized with gunshot wounds to the arms, chest and legs, but survived his injuries. Police said the suspect and victim knew each other and a dispute preceded the shooting.

Mr. Dunston entered not-guilty pleas at his arraignment yesterday in Worcester Superior Court on charges of armed assault with intent to murder, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, assault with a dangerous weapon, two counts of a firearm...
