WORCESTER - One man was killed and another was seriously injured when their car went out of control on Pleasant Street last night and slammed into another car stopped at the bottom of Airport Drive, police said.

The deceased, a 26-year old city man, was a passenger in a 2001 Nissan Maxima. He was pronounced dead at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus at 10:01 p.m., according to lead investigator Sgt. John J. Fallavollita of the Traffic Division. The driver was listed in serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit. The driver of the second car suffered only minor injuries and was being treated early today at the same hospital.

Investigators said a preliminary investigation showed the men were traveling west in a Nissan Maxima about 9:25 p.m. when their car went out of control, crossed Pleasant Street and hit a Buick Regal that was stopped at a stop sign at the bottom of Airport Drive.

Police rerouted traffic on Pleasant Street around the accident scene for about two hours while officers from the Traffic Division...
