LEOMINSTER - Two people were in police custody yesterday, charged with a daytime break-in on Franklin Street in which the homeowner allegedly struck the intruder in the head with a baseball bat.

Several other break-ins were reported in the city yesterday, according to police.

Alex Hernandez, 24, of 200 Pleasant St. was arrested at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester where he was being treated for a head wound, Police Sgt. Matthew C. Swaine said. Police charged with him breaking and entering in the daytime to commit a felony.

Also charged was Sarah Dixon, 23, of 18 South Cotton St., for the same offense. Sgt. Swaine said Ms. Dixon was believed to be an accomplice of Mr. Hernandez.

Earlier yesterday, police Lt. Michael D. Goldman said the owner of a Franklin Street home told police a man had entered his residence just after 1 p.m...
