WORCESTER - The man accused of firing several shots at another man, allegedly striking the man three times, on busy Chandler Street earlier this month was arraigned yesterday in Central District Court on assault and firearms charges.

Gerald T. Day, 18, of 173 Eastern Ave. Apt. 1, was allegedly caught on videotape with the victim sometime before the Feb. 8 shooting, Assistant District Attorney Marc W. Dupuis said in court.

Mr. Day, another man and the 23-year-old victim were all inside the gas station sometime before the afternoon shooting.

A witness told police he saw Mr. Day pull out a chrome- or nickel-plated small-caliber handgun near the corner of Oxford and Chandler streets and fire several shots at the victim.

Bullets struck the victim in the lower part of his body. The wounds were not life-threatening and the 23-year-old man was treated at UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus.

Police retrieved the videotape and a gang unit officer was able to identify Mr. Day as the shooter, Mr. Dupuis said. Probation officials were also familiar with Mr. Day, who is on probation for a firearms violation.
