WORCESTER - A 20-year-old city man was sentenced to 15 to 17 years' imprisonment yesterday for his role in a series of armed robberies and a carjacking in which the victim was bound and gagged, placed in the trunk of his vehicle and driven around for about two hours before being released.

Calling the crimes outrageous, Judge John S. McCann sentenced Anthony J. Jackson to 15 to 17 years in state prison, with 5 years of probation to follow, after Mr. Jackson pleaded guilty in Worcester Superior Court to charges of carjacking, kidnapping, four counts of armed robbery, three counts of possessing a sawed-off shotgun and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. Two co-defendants are awaiting trial.

Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey T. Travers told Judge McCann that a 19-year-old man was carjacked at gunpoint about 2 a.m. Dec. 29, 2007, after his car was blocked by a red Nissan Maxima on Coburn Avenue. The prosecutor said Raphael Rebollo, 21, of 1165 West Boylston St., one of Mr. Jackson's co-defendants, got out of the other car armed with a sawed-off shotgun, approached the victim and demanded his wallet.

When the man was unable to produce his wallet, Mr. Rebollo got behind the wheel and Mr. Jackson, of 14 Boardman St., got into the back seat, according to Mr. Travers. Mr. Rebollo drove off while Mr. Jackson took possession of the shotgun, Mr. Travers said.

He said the third suspect, identified as Antonio Cox, 20, of 10 Lucian St., followed in the red car. Mr. Rebollo eventually stopped the victim's car and the victim was bound and gagged with duct tape and forced into the trunk, according to the...
