$65,000 OK'd for roof repair; Town Hall leaking for 3 years.

WOODSTOCK - Special town meeting voters this week unanimously approved a $65,000 appropriation to replace the Town Hall roof.

The money will come from the town's general fund and can only be used for the roof replacement and any damages resulting from the leaks.

The roof has been leaking for three years and has gotten to the point where "daylight can be seen from inside," Selectman Mitch Eaffy said. He presented the case before the meeting, explaining that the problem came about because the valleys were installed improperly by the original roofer. That roofer has since gone out of business, and the town was stuck with the expense of replacing the 18-year-old roof.

Mr. Eaffy said water damage has occurred in some of the walls and in offices.

Because the roof replacement is considered an emergency expenditure, selectmen did not have to send the work out for competitive bid. Instead, the board asked for estimates and received five, ranging from a low of...
