Alice Anna (McMorrow) Cooney, 89.

SOUTH BOSTON Alice Anna (McMorrow) Cooney, a devoted mother, grandmother, wife, and caring nurse died Sunday September 25, 2011 at Marian Manor in South Boston, where she trained as a nurse when it was the "old" Carney Hospital.

Mrs. Cooney, 89, was predeceased by her husband of 53 years, Owen Joseph "Joe" Cooney. She leaves her son, James J. Cooney, and his wife, Eleanor, of Alexandria, VA; her daughter Ellen K. Cooney and her husband, Thomas Webb, of Pueblo, CO; her daughter Elizabeth M. Cooney and her husband, Thomas F.X. Cole, of Somerville; her granddaughter, Laura E. Cooney, and her fiance, Michael Plati, of Alexandria, VA; her grandson Timothy J. Cooney of New Orleans; her grandson Benjamin C. Cole of Brooklyn, NY; and her grandson Daniel C. Cole of Somerville.

She also leaves her brother John McMorrow and his wife, Nora, of Mt. Pleasant, SC; her brother William McMorrow and his wife, Margaret, of Walpole and East Dennis; and her sister, Mary Reid, and her husband, Thomas Reid, of Bourne; and 15 nieces and nephews. Her brother James McMorrow died previously.

Mrs. Cooney was born in Cambridge, oldest child of John Patrick and Ella (Curran) McMorrow, and grew up in South Boston and Savin Hill. She...
