CHARLTON - Jilian Palmer of Charlton, a 2004 graduate of Shepherd Hill Regional High School, organized an audiology clinic earlier this month at Charlton Town Hall.

Ms. Palmer earned a bachelor's of science degree in communication disorders in 2008 from the University of Rhode Island and is now in her second year of a four-year doctorate program in audiology at the University of Connecticut. Screenings, which took place Oct. 2, were organized as part of Ms. Palmer's "prevention project." She was assisted by another student, Aisling Meier.

About 30 people had their hearing checked that day.

Bates Craver honored by Nichols

E. Bates Craver has received an Honorary Alumni Award, presented by Nichols College President Debra M. Townsley at the recent Nichols 2009 Alumni Awards Dinner.

This year will mark the 35th year that Mr. Craver has been a member of the Nichols Community.

He started his career at Nichols as the sole athletic trainer for all sports in 1974. In addition to serving as trainer, Mr. Craver has served as swimming coach, intramural director, adviser to the varsity N-Club, coordinator of facilities and fields, and even interim athletic director.

The class of 1997 dedicated its yearbook to Mr. Craver, and in 2000 he was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Three years ago, in 2007, the Elliott Bates Craver Award for Dedication, Commitment and Rehabilitation was...
