AUBURN -- The Friends of the Auburn Free Public Library have announced the winners of the first annual "Beauty of Auburn'' photo contest.

Winners were: Lisa Villa, for her icy picture of frozen crabapples; Kay Paige, for her landscape portrait of mist on a local pond; Tessa Podolqu, for a detailed close-up of a maple leaf; Barbara Ela, for her colorful sailboat on the shore of Dark Brook Reservoir; and Tim and Lisa Onderdonk, for a photograph of a pink rose of Sharon.

Event organizer Christine Rondeau, Friends treasurer, said choosing winners was difficult for the panel of judges, which included Diane Ramsay, library director.

"We had about 40 entries, and there were so many beautiful pictures. We have some very talented amateur artists,'' Ms. Rondeau said.

She was inspired by the view of Stoneville Pond from her own back yard to have a contest celebrating the "Beauty of Auburn'' and allowing others to share their artistry.

Each contestant could enter any number of photographs, as long as each was accompanied by a donation to the Friends. Funds raised from donations and from raffle baskets at last week's...
