Bernard F. Haggerty.

SOUTHBRIDGE Bernard F. "Bernie" Haggerty, 84, of Southbridge, died Friday, November 12, 2010 at the Marlborough Hill Health Care Center in Marlborough, following a long illness.

He is survived by two sons, John B. Haggerty and his wife Alexis of Franklin, and Brian F. Haggerty and his wife Cathleen of Sturbridge; four grandchildren, Keren Brophy, Katharine Richardson, Ian Haggerty, and Eliza Haggerty; and 4 great-grandchildren.

He was born in Webster, and was the son of the late Francis B. and Alice (Shanley) Haggerty.

Bernie worked for over 30 years as an Insurance Executive for John Hancock Life Insurance Company. He was former member of the Southbridge Town Council and served the town in many roles.

He was a Korean War veteran, and was a First Lieutenant in the Massachusetts National Guard, serving from 1950-1961, where he supported relief operations during the 1953 Worcester tornado, and 1955 flooding of Southbridge. He was a member of the American...
