Bills to acquire McCoy in trade

A person familiar with the deal said the Philadelphia Eagles have agreed to trade star running back LeSean McCoy for Buffalo Bills linebacker Kiko Alonso. The person spoke under condition of anonymity Tuesday night because the teams had not announced the deal. ESPN first reported the trade. McCoy had an inconsistent season last year after leading the NFL with 1,607 yards rushing in 2013. Incoming Bills coach Rex Ryan has said he wants his offense to rely heavily on a running attack. Buffalo is expected to lose C.J. Spiller to free agency next week. Alonso played college football in Oregon under Eagles coach Chip Kelly. The 2013 second-round draft pick was a contender for NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. He missed all of last season with a knee injury after while working out in Oregon in July. He is expected to fully recover in time for the 2015 season.

A person familiar with the situation said Panthers defensive end and soon-to-be free agent Greg Hardy will meet with NFL officials in New York today to discuss his domestic violence case. Hardy has been on the commissioner's exempt list since September. He becomes a free agent March 10. Hardy, 26, was convicted of assault on a female and communicating threats last summer, but charges were dismissed Feb. 9 during an appeal trial when his accuser failed to testify. Prosecutors say Hardy reached a civil suit agreement with the accuser. The NFL has said it is investigating Hardy's case. The league unsuccessfully petitioned to have evidence from Hardy's first trial unsealed.

Australian rugby star Jarryd Hayne is getting his shot to play in the NFL. Hayne passed a physical and signed a three-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday. The team announced the deal for the undrafted free agent, who said his deal includes $100,000 in guaranteed money. Hayne decided last year to give up his career in the Australian National Rugby League to pursue an NFL job across the world. He likely will compete for a job as a running back and return man on special teams. The 27-year-old Hayne, who is 6-foot-2 and 220 pounds, held a news conference in Sydney to announce he would join the 49ers.

Jameis Winston met with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, hoping to make a good impression on the team considering taking the Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback with the first pick in the NFL Draft. The Bucs confirmed the former Florida State star was in town Tuesday to sit down with...
