COLUMN: AREA ROUNDUP GIRLS' BASKETBALL Hopedale 62, Marian 46 Besides scoring 33 points last night to lead the No. 3 Blue Raiders into the final of the Mustang Classic in Framingham, junior Lekia Cowen became the all-time leading scorer in Hopedale girls' basketball history. Cowen now has 1,290 career points to surpass the mark set by Gina Richards in 2003. Hopedale (5-0) was playing without starters Jess Peacock and Rachel Miranda, who were attending a soccer showcase in Florida, but got a big boost from freshman center Lauren Main, who had 12 points and six rebounds in her first varsity game. Senior Lauren Peacock added 8 points, 8 assists and 5 steals for the Blue Raiders, who will face Dover-Sherborn at 4 p.m. today at Marian. Murdock 45, Abby Kelley 18 Ashlyn White led the way with 13 points as the Blue Devils (2-4) won the Murdock Holiday Tournament. Abby Kelley (1-4) was led by Paige Girard's 11 points. N. Brookfield 61, University Park 51 Julianne Caron scored 21 points as the Indians won the consolation game of the Murdock Holiday tournament. Stephanie Surrette led the Cougars (1-3) with a game-high 24 points. Northbridge 49, David Prouty 42 Katie Morvan scored a game-high 19 points as the Rams (2-5) prevailed over the 2-5 Panthers in Spencer. Stephanie Barth chipped in 15 points for David Prouty. Quaboag 41, Uxbridge 22 Junior forward Macey Gaumond scored a game-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds in leading the fifth-ranked Cougars (6-0) past the visiting Spartans (3-3). Senior guard Rebecca Giguere had 6 assists and 6 steals to go with her 4 points. Southbridge 49, Auburn 37 Lauren Wilson scored a game-high 15 points for the host Pioneers (3-3) against the 0-6 Rockets. Milford 67, Nipmuc 52 Meg Malloy hit six 3-pointers in leading the Scarlet Hawks (3-2) to a home win. Malloy finished with a team-high 20 points. Ashley Robidoux had four treys of her own for 19 points. Elis Rhodes led all scorers with 21 points for the Chieftains (1-3). BOYS' BASKETBALL Assabet Valley 54, Whittier 47 Junior power forward Dustin Taylor led all scorers with 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Aztecs over visiting Whittier (0-4). Sophomore guard James Mahoney added 10 points, and senior Nick Ferrera scored 7 points and grabbed 11 rebounds off the bench for Assabet Valley (2-2).
