WORCESTER - Kaitlin Foley played what may very well have been her final game at the Hart Center last night, and the Holy Cross senior made it one she will always remember.

Foley became the 23rd player in the history of the HC women's program to score 1,000 career points, and her effort led the Crusaders to an important 67-47 Patriot League win over Colgate.

At 7-6 in the league, Holy Cross (12-16 overall) is in third place and holds a 1-1/2-game lead over American in the standings. HC can clinch the No. 3 seed in the PL tourney with a win at Lehigh on Saturday or a loss by American in one of its final two games. The Eagles play at Navy tonight and against Lafayette on Saturday.

Needing 18 points for 1,000 coming into the game, Foley finished with 23 to lead all scorers. She reached the milestone with 8:51 to play, taking a feed inside from freshman Christy Cushnie and fighting off two Colgate defenders as she went up for the basket.

Cushnie had a team-high six assists, four of them leading to Foley buckets.

"I think I owe Christy a steak dinner," Foley said.

Since becoming the Crusaders' starting center at the beginning of last year, Foley has established herself as a consistent offensive threat inside. She led the team in scoring last year (14.9 ppg) and tops the Crusaders again this season (12.8). She has scored 816 points over the last two seasons.

"I was aware (of how many points she needed), but I was trying not to think about it," Foley said. "If it happened, great. But I did want to do it on my home court, and my teammates did a great job getting the ball to me inside."

Freshman Bethany O'Dell had 12 points and seven assists. Freshman Briana McFadden added 11 points.

Holy Cross had a scary moment late in the first half when senior Brittany Keil went down after twisting her right knee. A Colgate player fell on top of Keil, who has a history of knee injuries, and she writhed in pain as she lay on the court.

After being helped to the bench, Keil rode a stationary bike and returned to the game just a minute later.

"It was really painful when it happened," said Keil, who is having her knees drained today.

Colgate (5-23, 4-9) has never won at the Hart Center, but the Raiders gave HC all it could handle for the first 24 minutes last night.

"I credit Colgate because they gave us a totally different look on defense," said...
