4 CMass All-Stars to play before Sharks

Four Central Mass. players will participate in the Massachusetts State Hockey Coaches Association High School All-Star Game at 4 p.m. Saturday at the DCU Center. Defenseman Bryan Nelson and goalie Mario Pizzeri of St. John's High and defenseman Kyle Sawyer of Hudson will play for the South team, while forward Marc Happy of Wachusett Regional will skate for the North team. The event, presented by the Shriners and hosted by the Worcester Sharks, also will include a girls' all-star game at 1:45. Tickets to both games are available by calling Andrew Nawn at (508) 929-0500. Tickets to the all-star games also allow fans admission to the Worcester Sharks' game against the Hershey Bears at 7 p.m.

The Dallas Stars said Rich Peverley has undergone successful surgery to correct an abnormal heart rhythm, more than a week after the forward collapsed on the bench during a game. Stars general manager Jim Nill said Peverley was released from the Cleveland Clinic on Wednesday, a day after surgery. Peverley is expected to return Thursday to Dallas. He will be monitored closely and may require further treatment. Nill says there is ''no decision being made at this time'' on if Peverley will play hockey again. He is out this season.

The Detroit Red Wings may have to make the playoffs and advance to get defenseman Jonathan Ericsson back. Ericsson had surgery on the middle finger of his left hand Wednesday and is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. He broke his finger and partially tore a tendon in it during Tuesday night's win over the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler will be out 3-5 weeks with a sprained ligament in his left knee. Fowler has missed Anaheim's last two games with the injury and now could be out for the remainder of the regular season. He was hurt in the second period of a game in Colorado on March 14. Fowler is enjoying a breakout season with six goals and 30 assists in 67 games.
