Police say two victims didn't identify shooter

FITCHBURG - Police are investigating a double shooting that left two men with non-life-threatening injuries early Sunday on Salem Street.

Police Capt. Philip J. Kearns Jr. said an officer found two men on the ground near 10120 Salem St. around 1 a.m. One man had been shot in the right thigh and the other in the left leg. The men, who were taken to UMass Memorial - HealthAlliance Leominster Campus, were 30 and 38 years old, Capt. Kearns said.

The men indicated they did not know their assailant, who they said was alone and armed with a semiautomatic handgun.

Two people hurt in Northbridge crash

NORTHBRIDGE - Two people were seriously hurt Saturday morning when their car smashed into a bridge abutment on Providence Road (Route 122). Police said alcohol may have been a factor.

Police went to the accident about 1:10 a.m., and found two people trapped in a 2003 Volkswagen Jetta that had smashed into the Ross Rajotte Memorial Bridge.

Using an extrication tool, Northbridge firefighters pulled out the driver, Russell Williams, 25, of 2184 Providence Road, Whitinsville; and Marilyn Crawford, 24, of 8 Breton Road, Upton. Both were

taken by ambulance to UMass Memorial

Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester.

As of yesterday, Mr. Williams was in critical condition, according to Northbridge police; Ms. Crawford was in serious condition.

Investigators found that the car was traveling north on Route 122 when it crossed over the southbound lane and struck the abutment.

The accident is being investigated by Northbridge Officers Jeffrey W. White and Richard D. Gorman, who were assisted by Chief Walter J. Warchol and Detective Sgt. John D. Ouillette.

Crown Hill group donates $1,200 toward district effort

WORCESTER - The Crown Hill Neighborhood Association has donated $1,200 to the city to help leverage an additional $12,000 in matching funds from the state for a study on creating a local historic district in the Crown Hill area.

The association has petitioned for creation of a historic district that would encompass about 100 properties, in an area that is roughly bounded by Pleasant Street to the north, Irving Street to the east, Chandler Street to the south and Piedmont Street to the west.
