Oakham

Two drivers hurt in three-vehicle crash

OAKHAM - The driver of one of the vehicles involved in a three-vehicle crash at Old Turnpike Road and Coldbrook Road yesterday afternoon was flown by emergency helicopter to UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester, police said.

The names of the three people involved in the 4:38 p.m. accident were not available last night, Police Chief Frederick Gehring said.

The accident is under investigation by the state police.

One of the other drivers was taken to the hospital by ambulance. The third driver was not injured, the chief said.

Rutland

Police investigate death at home

RUTLAND - State police detectives last night were investigating an unattended death at 120 Wachusett St, according to Timothy J. Connolly, spokesman for Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

The home is owned by Francis P. Spokis and Lee Anne Spokis.

Half a dozen plainclothes troopers attached to Mr. Early's office were at the home starting about 5 p.m. yesterday.

Also at the scene was a man who identified himself as Mr. Spokis' son, as well as a few other civilians.

State police vehicles could be seen at the end of the home's long driveway.

Leominster

Deputy chief says garage fire suspicious

LEOMINSTER - Firefighters are investigating a residential garage fire early yesterday morning at 192 Johnson St.

Deputy Chief Gary J. Ranno said no one was injured in the fire at the partly abandoned 20-by-25-foot detached wood frame and metal garage. Two engine trucks and a ladder truck were at the scene for about an hour after the call for the fire came in at 1:54 a.m., he said.

"It's definitely suspicious at this point," Mr. Ranno said.

Millbury woman named Miss Central Mass

WORCESTER - The winners of the second annual Miss Central Massachusetts & Miss Teen Massachusetts Beauty Pageant, held Saturday night at Mechanics Hall, are:

Miss Teen Central Massachusetts: Gina Oberoi of Worcester;

Miss Congeniality: Jenessa Trupiano of Worcester;

Miss Photogenic: Marissa McCann of Paxton;

Miss Congeniality Teen: Geneis Valentin of Worcester;

and Little Miss Teen Central Massachusetts: Sahmya Pilgrim of Worcester.
