Worcester

City man charged with setting fire

WORCESTER - An Ellsworth Street man was arrested for allegedly setting a Penn Avenue home on fire.

Police said that around 4 a.m. Sunday they went to 61 Penn Ave. for a report of a structure fire. When officers got there they saw smoke and flames coming from the side of the single family home. The officers were able to put out the fire. The Fire Department arrived and checked the rest of the structure, police said.

Officers developed information on a suspect, and a short time later identified the suspect as Juan Gualdarrama, 48, of 8 Ellsworth St., Apt. 2.

Around 4:30 a.m. police went to his house and found Mr. Gualdarrama hiding in his bedroom. He was arrested and charged with arson of a dwelling and violating an abuse prevention order.

Health advisory lifted for Lake Quinsigamond

WORCESTER - The Division of Public Health Monday lifted a health advisory for Lake Quinsigamond south of the Route 9 bridge.

The advisory, issued June 8, stemmed from an overflow of a sewer into a drain line that emptied into Lake Quinsigamond near 85 Lake Ave. Health officials had recommended that people not use the area for fishing, boating and bathing because of bacteria and chemicals in the overflow.

Dr. Michael P. Hirsch, acting commissioner of public health, said testing done Saturday indicated that water quality levels had returned to normal.

Uxbridge

Lemire nominated to be associate justice

UXBRIDGE - Gerald A. Lemire as been nominated by Gov. Deval L. Patrick to be associate justice of Uxbridge District Court.

Mr. Lemire, a local resident, has been serving as clerk-magistrate of Uxbridge District Court since he was appointed by Mr. Patrick in 2009.

Mr. Lemire was one of three people nominated as associate justices on a list submitted to the Governor's Council on Monday. Mr. Lemire would fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Judge Sarkis Teshoian.

The other nominations include Jennifer A. Stark of Framingham as associate justice of Marlboro District Court, to replace retired Judge Lynda M. Connolly; and Shelby D. Wright of Hyde Park as associate justice of Boston Municipal Court, Roxbury Division, to replace Judge Shannon Frison, who was appointed to Superior Court.
