Family Fun Day is Saturday, Sept. 26; Newly repaired trail to be dedicated.

WEST BOYLTON - Saturday's Family Fun Day brings with it the official ribbon cutting and re-opening of the West Boylston-owned portion of the Mass. Central Rail Trail. But it is only the beginning of the repair process, according to Colleen Abrams, president of Wachusett Greenways, the nonprofit organization that manages the trail.

Next begins the process of paying the repair bills.

"We've raised $5,000," Abrams said. "Our goal is to raise "$12,000 to pay for the repairs."

The trail suffered a serious breach in April due to a beaver dam and a heavy rain storm. The state Department of Conservation, the town and Wachusett Greenways cooperated on the repairs.

"The theme for this year, in addition to the family fun day, is donations, donations, donations," Abrams said. "Every dollar will immediately go to pay those bills."

Family Fun Day events take place at the West Boylston entrance and the Springdale Mill site on the Holden side of the trail. But, everything starts with the official ribbon cutting at 11 a.m. near the newly repaired section of trail, accessible from the West Boylston entrance.

"Everybody is welcome for the entire event," Abrams said. "We hope they come for the dedication ceremony."

Following the official re-opening of the West Boylston portion of the rail trail, visitors are invited to stay for Family Fun Day activities.
