AUGUSTA, Maine -- The planned deployment of a Maine National Guard unit to Kuwait next year has been canceled, officials said Friday, because it would complicate the company's scheduled transition to an infantry unit -- a move that Republican Gov. Paul LePage has vowed to stop in its tracks.
