Holy Name graduates told to enrich the world; High school honors its 164 seniors.

WORCESTER - The words of former politicians were highlighted by the salutatorian and valedictorian of the Holy Name Central Catholic High School graduating class of 2007 last night.

"Never forget the words of (President) Woodrow Wilson," said Hayley Trahan-Liptak, the salutatorian of the class who next year will attend Boston College. "He said, `You are here to enrich the world, and you impoverish yourself if you forget the errand.'"

Ms. Trahan-Liptak encouraged her 164 graduating classmates at the DCU Center to find their own definitions for success as they approach the future.

"A cynic would say not all of you will be successful and they would be right," she said. "Not many of us will be famous ... each of us will have to define success in our own lives."

Valedictorian William J. Nelson of Auburn turned to the words of a more recent political figure for inspiration: former secretary of state Madeleine K. Albright.

"She said, `we must be the authors of the history of our age,'" said Mr. Nelson, who will attend Georgetown University in the fall. "If you find something that should be changed, always stand up for what you believe in."

He highlighted the importance of a service-driven life in his address, and noted how during the summer, many members of the class volunteered at a camp for special needs students or traveled to Mississippi to assist in Hurricane Katrina relief.

"In order to attain true happiness we must serve others," Mr. Nelson said.

He said that while success in other endeavors, such as athletics or music, are important, nothing can replace the reward gained by serving fellow citizens.

"It is great to win a Super Bowl championship," he said. "I challenge future classes at Holy Name to go beyond producing athletic leaders: produce athletic citizens.

"We have done very well as a class, and I challenge the class of 2007 to continue to excel," he said.
