LYNN - Nauset's Jeff Duggan couldn't have asked for better weather, better teammates or a better score, he said yesterday, as the senior captain took home first place in the MIAA Division 2 individual state championship.

Duggan shot a 75 at the Gannon Municipal Golf Course, just one stroke under Concord-Carlisle's Steve Winslow and Hudson High's Dillon Glynn who tied for second at 76.

Led by Glynn and Josh Feinburg's 78, Hudson finished eighth in the team competition.

The only other Central Mass. high finisher was Matt Carville of Auburn High, who shot a nine-over 79.

Nauset coach Brian Hicks was happy for Duggan.

"(Jeff) works as hard as anyone and he's as dedicated as any athlete that I've seen to a sport," Hicks said. "He's going to go out tomorrow and play golf, next weekend he's in a tournament. Then, it's going to snow this winter and when the snow clears he's going to be out there again."

Duggan, who plans to play golf in college next year, called it the biggest round of his life.

Duggan's performance led to a second-place team finish in the tournament, and his teammates couldn't be happier about both outcomes.
