WORCESTER - A Boston man was sentenced to state prison yesterday after admitting in court that he stole a city pickup truck and escaped from a jail community service project in Leominster last year.

David A. Laperle, 53, was sentenced to 2 to 2-1/2 years in state prison after pleading guilty in Worcester Superior Court to escape and larceny of a motor vehicle.

Assistant District Attorney Jeffrey T. Travers told Judge Peter W. Agnes Jr. Mr. Laperle was serving a Worcester County Jail and House of Correction sentence May 8 when he was assigned by jail officials to a work crew installing playground equipment at Doyle Field in Leominster.

While at the community service work site, Mr. Laperle escaped and stole a DPW truck belonging to the city of Leominster, according to Mr. Travers. The abandoned vehicle, slightly damaged...
