Irene Smith.

STERLING - Irene C. (Barbour) Smith passed away peacefully at the Highland's Nursing Home on Sunday morning, April 15.

She was born on Sept. 30, 1918; in Worcester, and was the daughter of Peter and Kathryn (Palonius) Barbour. She graduated from Commerce High School in Worcester, Class of 1936. She married Wallace Smith on Dec. 31, 1955.

She, with her husband Wally, was a long-term resident of Legate Hill, in Sterling, operating a dairy farm for many years. As the youngest of 11 children, she surrounded herself with her sisters and brothers and many nieces and nephews. After her husband's death, she was part of the trio, who included her niece and husband Jeanne and Harold Copp, and spent many hours playing cards with friends, and family including Georgie, Merilee, Rich and Aurice. Having no children of her own, she loved babysitting for the children of Legate Hill, especially Greg and Scott, and was close with her many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
