WORCESTER John F. Scott, Ph.D., 80, a noted local psychologist died Thursday, October 16, 2008, at Notre Dame Long Term Care Center after a long illness.

He leaves his loving wife of 56 years, Millicent Paterson Scott of Holden; his children, Linda Scott and daughter-in-law Rebecca Sherer of Northampton and Angela Scott Henderson, son-in-law David Henderson, and granddaughter Carly Henderson of Avon, CT. He was born in Philadelphia, PA. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1945-1947. He received a BA from New York University, an MSW from Boston University, and a Ph.D. from Brandeis University.

Dr. Scott was affiliated with the Worcester Youth Guidance Center starting in 1953 and served as the Director from 1968-1985. In addition, he was the first chairman of the Worcester Human Rights Committee from 1968-1970; a consultant to the Worcester Police Department Training Academy from 1953-1986 and active in many civic organizations. He had a private psychology practice in Worcester for over 50 years.

He was an Associate Professor of Psychiatry UMASS Medical School; an Attending Psychologist at Saint Vincent Hospital; a former Associate Professor of Mental Health at Heller Graduate School, Brandeis University...
