Katherine C. 'Kay' Akona, 87.

WORCESTER - Katherine C. "Kay" Akona, age 87, died peacefully on April 20, 2013 at Tatnuck Park in Worcester, MA.

She was born on Sept. 16, 1925, in Worcester, MA, daughter of the late Francis and Isabel Conlon. Kay attended local elementary schools, and graduated from Commerce High School, Class of 1943. Kay spent the majority of her adult years in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she met her husband, Nip Tong Akona. They were married for 49 years before his passing on Oct. 15, 2006. Kay worked at a number of interesting positions during her career, including serving as the First Assistant to the Director of Operations for Pan American Airlines in Honolulu. She was an avid skier and surfer, and with her husband Nip traveled worldwide. She returned to her roots in 2011 and resided at Tatnuck Park in Worcester.
