COLUMN: BASKETBALL ROUNDUP COLLEGE MEN Clark 81, Baruch 80 Mark Alexander's 3-pointer with 21 seconds remaining gave the Cougars (5-3) a dramatic win in the semifinals of the NYU Christmas Tournament in New York. Clark trailed, 41-34, at halftime but rallied behind Alexander and Dominique Beck, who scored 16 and 18 points, respectively. The Cougars advance to play NYU in the Championship game. Wheaton 71, Fitchburg State 67 Junior forward Brian Torres scored 23 points and collected four steals for the visiting Falcons (1-8) against Wheaton (5-3) in the Salem State Tournament. Sophomore guards Jeff Kozik and Mike Woods scored 15 and 10 points, respectively, for Fitchburg State. P.R. Bayamon 75, Assumption 73 Junior guard Greg Twomey scored 15 points for the visiting Greyhounds (6-6) in a loss to P.R. Bayamon in Puerto Rico. Junior guard Leroy Byron added 11 points for Assumption. COLLEGE WOMEN Clark 76, Staten Island, NY 40 Sarah Roderigue's game-high 17 points led the Cougars (4-7) in the Land of Magic Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla. Ashley Auclair and Jillian Camilleri each added 14 points and nine rebounds for Clark, which led, 44-17, at halftime. Assumption 70, Molloy 52 Junior forward Charde Ford scored 22 points to lead the visiting Greyhounds (4-7) over Molloy in Rockville, N.Y. Sophomore guard Beth Plasski went 4 for 4 from behind the 3-point line to account for 12 of her 14 points for Assumption. HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS Maynard 40, Hudson 39 Senior captain Kara Morgan hit the winning free throw with 1.5 seconds left to lift the Tigers (5-1) over the Hawks (2-4) at Bentley College. Morgan scored 15 points and collected 10 rebounds and junior guard Ashley Poh scored a game-high 17 points for Maynard. Senior captain Lindsay Campbell scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half for Hudson. Whitinsville Christian 52, Marian 36 Mikaela Vander Baan dropped in a game-high 22 points to lead the 3-2 Crusaders in the Mustang Classic consolation at Hopedale. Martine Dolan netted 10 points for Whitinsville Christian. Narragansett 50, Tahanto 33 Sophomore forward Taylor Walker topped the Warriors with 13 points as they won the Narragansett Holiday Tournament in Baldwinville. Junior guard Kathleen Jasinski chipped in 12 points for the 3-3 Warriors. Junior forward Sarah Hamel was a presence down low with nine points and 19 rebounds.
