WINCHENDON - A 17-year-old female passenger on an all-terrain vehicle died after it crashed into a tree late Saturday night. The driver will be arraigned today on a charge of motor vehicle homicide.

Police said Abby Gosselin-Remming of 55 Burrage Ave., Leominster, was being tended to by bystanders who were performing CPR when officers arrived at the crash near 230 West Monomonac Road about 11:30 p.m. She was taken to UMass Memorial Medical Center - University Campus in Worcester, where she died from her injuries.

Sgt. Raymond M. Anair said Miss Gosselin-Remming was riding on the ATV with Jason Perini, 30, of 35 Waterford St., Gardner. Mr. Pernini apparently showed up at a party on Second Street in Winchendon with the ATV, which police said had been reported stolen in Hubbardston Friday. They said he was providing rides to some of the female partygoers.

The crash occurred not far from the party. The ATV headed on West Monomonac, passed a car and slammed into a tree, the car's driver told police.

Mr. Perini left on foot and was arrested about 3:30 p.m. yesterday at a nearby home and was taken to Henry Heywood Hospital to be checked out before being held by police, Sgt. Anair said.

He is also charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury accident in which a death resulted, negligent driving and receiving stolen property, and will be arraigned today in Gardner District Court.

Police believe speed and alcohol played roles in the crash. Police also believe both the driver and passenger were not wearing helmets.

As news of Miss Gosselin-Remming's death reached her friends, there was anger, shock and concern for her 2-year-old son.
