LEOMINSTER - Manager Greg Parson was looking for somebody to come up with a clutch hit, and Alex Perez finally delivered.

After leaving the bases loaded in the first, second and fourth innings, Leominster American didn't leave them stranded again in the sixth, as Perez's single to right field scored Bryce Parson to give the District 3 champions a 6-5 walk-off victory over Westfield North at Ronnie Bachand Memorial Field.

Leominster American (1-1), which lost to Holden on Wednesday, stayed alive in the double-elimination, Little League Major Division State Section 1 Tournament and will travel to Pittsfield South (1-1) for a 5:30 p.m. game today. The winner will play at Holden (2-0) at 5:30 Saturday.

Perez also earned the win, pitching all six innings for Leominster American, which scored four runs in the third.

"I told our kids before that last inning that someone has to want to step up for us and come through," Greg Parson said. "We got the bases loaded again in that inning, so here's our chance. Alex, who pitched a great game for us, ironically, comes up with the big hit. Today we struggled with guys in scoring position, but we still managed to get some big contributions from a few guys, which is big for this team."

Leominster American loaded the bases with two outs in the first inning, but Westfield North starter Mike Hall ended the threat by getting Tyler Carr to pop out.
