Lunenburg, come in and play; Group program seeks toddlers, caregivers.

Byline: Lynne Klaft LUNENBURG - The Lunenburg School-Linked Service/Massachusetts Family Network program is looking for toddlers and their caregivers to join their playgroups. "Our programs are free and open to Lunenburg residents, families or caregivers with children from ages birth to 4," said Director Patty McCarthy-Guillette. "We provide parent education, playgroups, family activities, and educational forums. We work closely with Early Intervention to provide developmental screenings and assessments; with the local school system to provide parent education around preschool; and local community agencies to provide information and referrals to families," added Ms. McCarthy-Guillette. The MFN programs follow the school calendar year from September through June. Family activities include: the gingerbread luncheon, trips to Davis Farmland, the Drawbridge Puppet Theater, and the Hands-on-Art Museum. "This gives families an opportunity to bond with other community members and develop new friendships that support their role as parents." "We currently have four grandparents who attend on a regular basis and they offer such a wonderful perspective on parenting. And, it is always a thrill when a father brings a child to an event!" said Ms. McCarthy-Guillette. The network offers events such as Dad's Dress for a Mess that gives dads and granddads the opportunity to have special time with their children. In the past, the network has presented educational sessions, "Parent Talk," for parents to come together and talk about issues that affect their children and families.
