COLUMN: BASKETBALL ROUNDUP HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS Maynard 40, Hudson 39 Senior captain Kara Morgan hit the winning free throw with 1.5 seconds left to lift the Tigers (5-1) over the Hawks (2-4) at Bentley College. Morgan scored 15 points and collected 10 rebounds and junior guard Ashley Poh scored a game-high 17 points for Maynard. Senior captain Lindsay Campbell scored 10 of her 13 points in the second half for Hudson. Whitinsville Christian 52, Marian 36 Mikaela Vander Baan dropped in a game-high 22 points to lead the 3-2 Crusaders in the Mustang Classic consolation at Hopedale. Martine Dolan netted 10 points for Whitinsville Christian. St. Bernard's 44, Abington 29 Senior captain Jillian Crawley had five steals and nine points in leading the host Bernardians (3-2) over Abington (2-3). Sophomore forward Chelsea Johnston scored eight points off the bench for St. Bernard's. Oakmont 39, Groton-Dunstable 33 Sophomore point guard Colleen Doherty had 12 points and six rebounds and Ali Mohnk contributed five points and eight rebounds for the host Spartans (3-3) over the Crusaders (2-3). Narragansett 50, Tahanto 33 Sophomore forward Taylor Walker topped the Warriors with 13 points as they won the Narragansett Holiday Tournament in Baldwinville. Junior guard Kathleen Jasinski chipped in 12 points for the 3-3 Warriors. Junior forward Sarah Hamel was a presence down low with nine points and 19 rebounds. Westboro 72, St. Peter-Marian 36 Senior captain Marybeth Ash scored 23 points to lead the top-ranked Rangers (5-0) in a win over the visiting Guardians (0-5). Junior center Danielle Coffey added 16 points and 10 rebounds for Westboro. St. Mary's 52, North 47 Sophomore center Hilary Kusz led all scorers with 19 points while pulling down 12 boards to lead the visiting Eagles (2-3). Courtney Bremer had 11 points for St. Mary's. Erika Sheldon led the 0-6 Polar Bears with 12 points. North Middlesex 43, Gardner 36 Senior guard Angela Johnson sparked the Patriots to their first win with a game-high 15 points in Townsend. Tied 18-18 at the half, North Middlesex (1-4) held the Wildcats to one field goal in the second half. Senior center Meghan Elwell topped Gardner (2-3) with 11 points and junior forward Ali Haney chipped in 10. Grafton 58, Nipmuc 48 Senior forward Nicole Atchue scored 15 of her team-high 21 points in the first half as the host Indians (1-4) outlasted the Warriors (3-3).
