North won this game last season, 27-20, but will have to rely on a new cast of heroes this year. Then-senior Allan Britton caught the winning TD pass, classmate Will Shepherd was the MVP and since-departed coach Mike Ross roamed the sideline. New coach Dan Boyle, though, still has some weapons. Running back Kevin Portee is one of the region's top scorers with 22 TDs. He can take it in from anywhere on the field, as he had scoring runs of 1, 29 and 47 yards last time out against Northbridge. Humphrey Souza also provides a spark from the backfield. One of the Polar Bears' strengths has been getting to the quarterback, as Jorge Campos had 7-1/2 sacks, with Portee adding another five. South has found offense tougher to come by, amassing only 105 points through its 10 games. The Colonels have proven scrappy even with their limited scoring, though, still winning four games. They are coming off one of those wins, a 21-0 whitewashing of Quabbin.
