WESTBORO -- One year after University of New Hampshire sophomore Elizabeth "Lizzi'' Marriott's death, her family still grieves and tries to come to terms with the fact they may never get to say goodbye to their only daughter.

Ms. Marriott, 19, was allegedly strangled to death by Seth Mazzaglia Oct. 9 while his girlfriend Kathryn "Kat'' McDonough, whom Ms. Marriott worked with, befriended and trusted, stood by and did nothing to try to save her, according to prosecutors.

Ms. Marriott's body, allegedly dumped off the coast of Peirce Island in Portsmouth, N.H., has never been recovered despite months of extensive searching.

During Ms. McDonough's sentencing hearing a few months ago, Ms. Marriott's father, Robert Marriott, read an emotional and powerful impact statement while trying to hold back tears.

In addition, they used Ms. Marriott's car to move her body to Peirce Island in Portsmouth, dumped the body into the Piscataqua River, broke and threw away her cellphone and GPS, and then abandoned her car in a parking lot on the UNH campus on Oct. 9, prosecutors allege.

Later, the couple threw away a suitcase and tarp that were used to transport Ms. Marriott's body, according to prosecutors, and created a fake alibi and discussed what they should tell police about their whereabouts the night she was killed.

Prosecutors say the conspiracy continued through December, as letters were sent back and forth between Mr. Mazzaglia and Ms. McDonough, after he was arrested, to concoct stories about what happened the night of Ms. Marriott's...
