Marianapolis hosts tournament

Marianapolis Prep will host the Hoop Mountain Prep Classic - featuring some of the top prep schools and college prospects in the country - from Friday through Sunday in Thompson, Conn. National powers as well as Marianapolis and Notre Dame of Fitchburg are among the 15 teams competing. Some of the top players to watch include Corey Wright Jr. of Marianapolis, Adam Braswell of Notre Dame, Jarrett Mann of Blair Academy, and Tucker Halpern of Noble & Greenough. Brian Wilson was named associate head coach of the Holy Cross women's basketball team. Wilson has served as an assistant coach the past four seasons for the Crusaders, who host Buffalo at 7 tonight at the Hart Center.

The San Jose Sharks recalled goaltender Dimitri Patzold from a conditioning assignment with the Worcester Sharks and reassigned goaltender Thomas Greiss to Worcester. Patzold was 1-1-1 with a 3.57 goals-against average and .903 save percentage in three games for Worcester. Greiss is 6-4-0, 3.15 and .904 for Worcester.

Holy Name and St. Peter-Marian will meet in the J.P. Ricciardi Baseball Classic at the Rogers Centre in Toronto on April 19-20 after the Blue Jays play the Detroit Tigers. To raise funds for the trip, the schools will square off in an alumni basketball game at St. Peter-Marian at 6 p.m. Feb. 9. St. John's Jeff Millar, St. Peter-Marian's John Feeley, Hudson's Nicholas Brunelle and Shepherd Hill's Keegan Mackin were named recipients of the Jim Dorsey, Fran Scales and Leo Bachant Memorial Scholarships, given by the Central Mass. Conference of Football Officials.

Red Sox will share $19 million

Red Sox players will share $19 million for winning the World Series last month, 5 percent less than the bonus awarded to the 2006 champion St. Louis Cardinals. Members of the Red Sox will get a maximum of $308,236 each for beating the Colorado Rockies in the championship, Major League Baseball said. Players voted to award 47 full shares, 14 partial shares, and 11 cash awards for players and club employees such as trainers and scouts.
