Divison 1 Boys

Putnam Voke 74, Central Catholic 70: Putnam Voke repeated as Division 1 state champions and capped off an undefeated season by downing Central Catholic at the DCU Center on Saturday.

Senior David Murrell led the Beavers with 22 points and surpassed 1,000 for his career in his final high school game. Murrell boosted Putnam early with 14 points in the first half, and then added eight more in the fourth quarter as Central kept it close.

Nick Cambio led all players with 27 points, scoring eight in the third quarter and nine in the fourth, while the Raiders' Tyler Nelson added 17. Sophomore A.J. Pettway of Worcester, the son of North High coach Al Pettway, added five points for Central Catholic.

Putnam had pulled out to a 38-31 lead at halftime, but Cambio and Alex Santos (11 points) willed the Raiders back, cutting it to 54-52 heading into the fourth quarter.

The game stayed within a single possession for most of the final eight minutes, but Nelson couldn't convert on several 3-point looks with Putnam ahead, 73-70, in the final minute.

Division 2 Boys

New Mission 53, Concord-Carlisle 43: The Titans outscored the Patriots, 28-15, in the second and third quarters to win their third state title in the last five years.

Senior Asante Sandiford scored 11 of his game-high 18 points during that stretch to put New Mission ahead, 38-26, heading into the fourth quarter.

Shaquan Murray (13 points) helped the Titans in the other two quarters, scoring three times in the first to keep it close as Concord-Carlisle led, 11-10 after one.

Jonathan Dor and Jamir Henderson both scored twice in the opening eight minutes to boost the Patriots early on.

They narrowed the deficit to five in the fourth quarter, but Sandiford and Murray made nine of 10 free throws in the final period to help ensure the win.

Blaine Taylor led Concord-Carlisle with 12 points.

Division 3 Boys

Cardinal Spellman 61, Tyngsboro 51: Sophomore guard Drew Hurynowicz scored 11 of his game-high 24 points in the first quarter, but the Central Mass. champion Tigers (22-3) couldn't fend off the Cardinals.

Tyngsboro junior Austin Coene finished with the second-most points in the game (18), scoring seven in the second quarter to help keep the Tigers within striking distance as Cardinal Spellman took a 33-26 lead at halftime.

The Tigers trailed, 44-34, after three, but Coene added nine of Tyngsboro's 17 fourth quarter points. He cut it to 53-50 in the final three minutes, but an alley-oop...
