WEST YARMOUTH Ralph N.S. Merritt died peacefully at Mayflower Place on February 13, with his family and his wife, Anne, of sixty two years.

He grew up in Worcester, Mass, graduating from Worcester Polytechnic Institute with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He enlisted in the Navy after graduation, earning the rank of Lieutenant as an ordnance officer and project engineer. During his service, he was stationed in Washington, D.C. and Seaside, Oregon, where he and Anne were married during World War II. After leaving the Navy, he worked in both the business and project design aspects of his field in Worcester and Boston, Mass. In 1983 he and his wife retired to Dennis, where they met in 1942 and had summered throughout their years together.

An avid gardener, he loved traveling the back roads of the Cape with his wife and spending time with his family.
