Shine Memorial Pool will be renovated

WORCESTER - The state Department of Conservation and Recreation has signed a $1.686 million construction agreement with Construction Dynamics of Fitchburg to renovate the Dennis F. Shine Memorial Pool in the Vernon Hill neighborhood.

The pool, which is on Providence Street, is home to one of the two free learn-to-swim programs in Worcester and is managed by the Department of Conservation and Recreation. Building and pool improvements are expected to be finished in time to reopen in the summer.

Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Murray; state Sen. Edward M. Augustus Jr., D-Worcester; and state Rep. John P. Fresolo, D-Worcester, announced the construction agreement last week.

The pool is named after Cpl. Dennis F. Shine Jr., who grew up on Vernon Hill and was 21 when he was killed in Vietnam in 1969.

Woman accused of faking IDs

LEOMINSTER - A Brockton woman is being held on $2,500 cash, $25,000 surety after being arraigned in Leominster District Court Tuesday on charges of credit card fraud and larceny.

Stacie R. Jones, 39, 26 Sherman St., Brockton, is facing six counts of credit card fraud, six counts of larceny over $250, six counts of forgery of a document, six counts of identity fraud, and six counts of possessing or using a fake Registry of Motor Vehicle document.

According to court documents, it is alleged that Ms. Jones used information from unsuspecting residents of Stow and Dorchester to open store accounts at several city businesses, including TJ Maxx, American Eagle, Linens 'N Things, Best Buy, Target and Toys "R" Us.
