Shrewsbury robotics team is FIRST.

SHREWSBURY - Shrewsbury's FIRST robotics team earned the top spot at the Washington, D.C. Regional FIRST Robotics Competition held March 29-31. While the team is entitled to attend the 2012 national championship in St. Louis, it has decided to postpone a trip to finals until next year due to financial constraints.

In addition, the Colonials received a Team Spirit award. The judges recognized the team for its involvement in the Shrewsbury community and they were also impressed with the family atmosphere of the team. FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) was founded in 1989 to inspire young people's interest and participation in science and technology. The Robotics Competition challenges high-schoolers, under the guidance of professional mentors, to design and build a robot and compete in high-intensity events.
