Sr. Solonge Flamand.

PETERSHAM - The Sisters of the Assumption mourn the loss of Sr. Solonge Flamand, formerly known as Sr. Solonge-de-Marie who passed on at Marie Esther Health Center on Friday, June 21, 2013.

She was a native of Northbridge, Massachusetts, the fifth child of six born to Eva (Desmarais) and Joseph Flamand on August 8, 1930.

St. Solonge entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption in January of 1954. Following her profession of first vows in 1956, she served in the ministry of education in parochial schools, teaching in MA, CT, RI, and NY for twenty-seven years and as Interim Principal in Meriden, CT. After seven years as Provincial Treasurer in Worcester, MA, Sr. Solonge moved to Petersham in 2000, going from community services to a ministry of prayer in the Infirmary. Her final years, 2009 to the present, were spent at the Marie Esther Health Center in Marlboro, MA.

St. Solonge is survived by her sister: Sr. Jane, Flamand, formerly known as Sr. Saint-Jean-de-Notre-Dame of Worcester, MA; a brother: Joseph Flamand and his wife Lorraine of Northbridge, MA; several nieces and nephews; the Sisters of the Assumption worldwide; the Sisters of St. Anne...
