TD awards $2.5M in housing grants

WORCESTER -- The TD Charitable Foundation has awarded $2.5 million in grants to nonprofits focused on affordable housing initiatives, including a nonprofits in Worcester and Fitchburg.

The Main South Community Development Corporation in Worcester and the Twin Cities CDC in Fitchburg have each received a $100,000 grant for its community housing projects.

The TD Charitable Foundation is the charitable giving arm of TD Bank.

Hanover donates $5,000 to T&G Santa

WORCESTER -- The Hanover Insurance Group Foundation once again this year has donated $5,000 to support the T&G Santa's efforts to make Christmas a little brighter for many in the community.

The foundation made its contribution on behalf of The Hanover Insurance Group's many dedicated employees, who deliver for their agent partners and customers every day, and who contribute countless hours of community service each year, helping make their home communities better places in which to live and work.

National Grid gives $15,000 to YMCA

WORCESTER -- The National Grid Foundation has given $15,000 to the YMCA of Central Massachusetts to benefit the Y's Minority Achievers Program, which reaches out to high school students to promote access and opportunity for urban youths to attend post-secondary educational institutions.

Another focus area of the program is to raise awareness about career paths and identify accomplished adults who serve as role models and mentors.

Since its inception in 1999, the program has had an impact on more than 650 high school students. More than 170 Adult Achievers, 90 community partners and 60 corporations have supported this important community-building initiative.

Tri State's third year of Haulin' 4 Hunger

SHREWSBURY -- Knowing one out of eight people struggles with hunger in Massachusetts, Tri State Truck Center's customers, employees, and this year's co-sponsors -- SelecTrucks of New England, Flynn's Truck Plaza and Al's Oil, all in Shrewsbury -- were set to be Haulin' 4 Hunger on Dec.19, delivering fresh meals to food insecure families in Worcester County.

Hunger affects 789,800 people in Massachusetts, according to FeedingAmerica.org, and of those, 89,920 live in Worcester County.

Haulin' 4 Hunger is an annual philanthropic campaign created by Tri State Truck Center to provide food-insecure families with fresh meals during the holiday season, said Kevin Holmes, Tri-State president and CEO.
