BARRE-- Having a comprehensive emergency preparedness model in place has netted Quabbin Regional School District a $135,095 grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The money can be used to train staff and students for unforeseen events, and to purchase supplies and equipment.

Quabbin officials teamed up with public safety and public health personnel from Barre, Hardwick, Hubbardston, New Braintree and Oakham beginning in October and submitted the grant application in February, according to Christine R. Nosel, the school's grant manager. She said the money would be disbursed over a four-year period.

In addition to the public schools in the five-town district, the money will be used to assist the two private schools in the area: Stetson School in Barre and Eagle Hill School in Hardwick.
