A true sibling rivalry.

Softball is fast becoming a sport which has had the chance to bring sisters together as teammates on the diamond.

There are Erin and Deirdre Gallo at St. Peter-Marian, Rachel and Samantha Crowley of Notre Dame Academy, and the Burns twins -- Baylee and Brianna -- who patrol the outfield for Algonquin. Narragansett has three sets of sisters -- the Burdettes, Melansons and Chojnowskis.

However, what happens when sister meets sister from opposing teams? And to add just a little more drama to the mix, when the younger sister is the opposing pitcher?

Such has been the experience through the past two seasons for Monty Tech senior Taylor Bacigalupo and her sister Haley, a junior pitcher for Gardner High.

On Wednesday, Haley's Gardner High team defeated Taylor's Monty Tech squad, 9-4, which likely made the younger sister the happier of the two.

That was on Taylor's second at-bat, after Haley retired her sister in the first inning on a popup to first.

Later in the game, Taylor made it 2 for 3 against her sister with a base hit in front of the left fielder.

While the two girls were teammates on the Gardner Middle School team, Taylor opted to attend Monty Tech for her freshman year. They faced one another for the first time last year when Haley moved up to the Wildcat varsity team as a sophomore.

This year more than made up for last season according to Taylor, when her sister blew a third strike past her with a swinging whiff.

"Last year she struck me out swinging and I've been like, 'it's not gonna happen again,' '' Taylor said. "I know she wanted to strike me out again.''

So, do the girls engage in their share of trash talk leading up to the game?

"There's always talk leading up to (the game), but we just talk about how we're gonna beat each other,'' Taylor said. "Once I hit her she told me not to hit her again, and I just said 'Catch...
