To enjoy a special occasion, it makes sense to enjoy it in a special place.

While TiNovo is one of several new venues to emerge at the dawn of a Worcester Renaissance in fine dining, it's a place specifically made for those special occasions.

Built in 1876 by Daniel B. Wesson as the new home of Dr. George Bull and his wife - and Wesson's daughter, Sarah - the granite structure was an impressive residence in the heart of the city, one block from Main Street.

Wesson made in fortune in the firearms manufacturing business.

Around 1912, as the commercial district of Main Street expanded northward toward the courthouse, the Bull Mansion as it was known, was sold to the Grand Army of the Republic. The GAR added a meeting hall and banquet hall, designed by Worcester architect Stephen C. Earle.

In the 1930s, the building was transferred to the city of Worcester and served as a memorial and meeting place for veterans of all wars.

In more recent times, the building remained dormant, despite being chosen and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.

In 2003, Mitch Terricciano, owner of the former Tiano's on Grove Street, purchased the building from the city, which had acquired it in the 1930s. His goal was to resurrect its past and preserve its historical significance.

Today, the good times return to the Mansion. Weddings, corporate and private functions and upscale dining are available to the public. The Louis Charles Room, named in memory of musician Lou Terricciano and brother to Mitch, can accommodate 40 to 250 people for that very special occasion.

According to Lynne Doody, function manager, a large-scale wedding of 200-plus would require the entire dining area and must be scheduled for a Sunday or an early Saturday afternoon (when TiNovo is closed to the public). Smaller-sized weddings or other events can exclusively use the Louis Charles Room. And the grand staircase is ideal for pictures.

Since there are no wedding packages, a bridal party would have a custom-designed celebration, Ms. Doody said. "We'll work with the bride and groom to design a menu and bar selections especially for them."

Entrees begin at $21 per person. Parties have a choice of 15 to 20 delicious meals including Chicken Lombardi (chicken breast sauteed in garlic, with fresh spinach and blue cheese over gorgonzola, caramelized onion and Yukon gold potato filled ravioli); Scrod Roseanne (dijon and lemon aioli, fresh herbed crumbs); surf and turf...
