BOYS' HOCKEY

Wachusett 6, Westboro 0: Junior Jake Strasser (20 saves) posted his first shutout of the season at North Star Youth Forum, anchoring coach Matt Lane's 100th career victory in his eighth year with the top-ranked Mountaineers (11-1-2).

Sophomore Tanyon Ventres scored twice within 15 seconds in the first period, both assisted by freshman Andrew Iacaboni, his fellow third-liner. Sophomore defenseman Matt Cappucci had a goal and two assists. The Rangers are 3-12-1.

Arlington Catholic 5, St. Peter-Marian 2: Seniors Zach Zona and Zack O'Connor scored for the Guardians (4-9-2), who allowed three power-play goals in a loss to the Cougars (8-1-4) in Arlington.

Grafton 11, Assabet 3: Junior forwards Taylor Shannon and Jared Vadenais and freshman right wing Nick Hart each scored twice as the host Indians (11-4) launched a 42-shot assault and exploded for seven second-period goals at Buffone Rink in Worcester.

Senior co-captains Mike Palmer, Mike Moran and Patrick Lorden added a goal and two assists each, as did freshman defenseman Kyle Roy.

For the Aztecs (0-15), Josh Halliday and Ryan Pantridge had a goal and an assist each, and Chad Ripley added two assists.

BOYS' BASKETBALL

Abby Kelley 61, Bethany Christian 37: Senior captains Hector Ozuna and Ruben Rivera posted double-doubles to lead the host Bears (15-4, 12-1 Worcester County). Ozuna finished with 19 points and 16 rebounds, and Rivera added 13 points and 11 assists.

Chris Caughey paced the Eagles (10-5, 8-4) with 13 points.

AMSA 55, St. Mary's 52: Ryan Monique had 20 points, Jad Kabbara 12 and Adam Gill 11 as visiting AMSA (9-6, 9-5 WCAC) held off St. Mary's (3-11, 3-8) in Worcester.

Kennedy Asare had 26 points and 12 rebounds for St. Mary's, which had a chance to tie it off an inbounds pass with 9 seconds left but couldn't manage a 3-point shot.

Hopedale 70, Douglas 41: Sophomore guard Kevin Lynch nailed six 3-pointers for 18 points to lead the No. 9 Blue Raiders (13-4, 8-1 Dual Valley). Senior forward Jeremy Bacon and Evan Lerner scored 16 and 14 points, respectively.

Junior guard Nolan Karsok had 13 points for the Tigers (6-11, 2-7).

Valley Tech 49, Nipmuc 39: Senior guard Eddie Floyd had 14 points and six assists for the host Beavers (8-5), who outscored the Warriors, 17-8, in the third quarter to pull away from a one-point halftime lead.
