Walter G. Daubney.

CHARLTON - Walter G. Daubney, 85, died Thursday, Dec. 20, after a brief illness.

His wife of 57 years, Elaine M. (Shea) Daubney, died in 2003.

He leaves five children, Diane Sullivan and her husband, Raymond, of Charlton, Donna Bigelow and her husband, Brian, of Charlton, Barbara Karman and her husband, Sid, of Shrewsbury, Richard Daubney of Connecticut and James Daubney and his wife, Rosemary, of Charlton. In addition, he leaves 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Daubney in Oklahoma; a sister, Marjorie Knight of Millbury; and many nephews and nieces.

He was born in Douglas on Nov. 6, 1922, to James and Marjorie (Turner) Daubney. During his lifetime, he developed varied interests, which took him to a 40-year career as a machinist at Whitin Machine Works. He also served as a part-time patrolman in the Uxbridge Police Department. In his spare time, he did cabinetry and woodworking. During World War II, he served as a radio operator and bombardier on a B-17 bomber in the 100th Bomb Group flying out of England over the European continent.
