$4M water plant tops special warrant.

PAXTON - A request by the Water Commissioners to appropriate $4 million for a water treatment facility is among three warrant articles for a special town meeting at 7 p.m. Jan. 24 at Center School.

Also on the warrant are articles relating to the proposed affordable housing project off Grove and Holden streets and a feasibility study for replacing windows and repairing part of the Center School roof.

In recent years, the town has bought its water from the Worcester Water Department, which drew the water from the town's Asnebumskit Reservoir and treated it.

Before that, when water was drawn directly from the reservoir by the town, several attempts were made to have voters approve a treatment plant, but they were all voted down.

John F. Malone, water commission chairman, has said several times recently that the plant could become necessary because Worcester has limited the amount the town may purchase, and because of concerns that the Worcester price would be...
