Where the bison, er, roamed.

New York state hasn't been on the American frontier for a very long time, but it took a step back in time recently when 15 bison escaped from a farm near Albany. After conferring with police, the farm owners decided they had no choice but to shoot the animals.

That decision, and the manner in which it was carried out -- using riflemen from the farm -- has drawn criticism. The local sheriff has even received death threats.

And People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals naturally issued a statement saying the bison must have been terrified.

We had no idea PETA could get inside the heads of bison, but whatever the bison were feeling, we're pretty sure the critics need to rethink their reflexive...
